(NaturalNews) If you have stomach problems or gastrointestinal problems, a new study led by Dr. Judy Carman may help explain why: pigs fed a diet of genetically engineered soy and corn showed a 267% increase in severe stomach inflammation compared to those fed non-GMO diets. In males, the difference was even more pronounced: a 400% increase. (For the record, most autistic children are males, and nearly all of them have severe intestinal inflammation.)

The study was conducted on 168 young pigs on an authentic farm environment and was carried out over a 23-week period by eight researchers across Australia and the USA. The lead researcher, Dr. Judy Carman, is from the Institute of Health and Environmental Research in Kensington Park, Australia. The study has now been published in the Journal of Organic Systems, a peer-reviewed science journal.

The study is the first to show what appears to be a direct connection between the ingestion of GMO animal feed and measurable damage to the stomachs of those animals. Tests also showed abnormally high uterine weights of animals fed the GMO diets, raising further questions about the possibility of GMOs causing reproductive organ damage.

Proponents of corporate-dominated GMO plant science quickly attacked the study, announcing that in their own minds, there is no such thing as any evidence linking GMOs to biological harm in any animals whatsoever. And they are determined to continue to believe that, even if it means selectively ignoring the increasingly profound and undeniable tidal wave of scientific studies that repeatedly show GMOs to be linked with severe organ damage, cancer tumors and premature death.

This is America now: Eighth grader facing a year in prison for wearing gun rights T-shirt to school

Standard

gun rights(NaturalNews) It’s bad enough the micromanagers of the Nanny State want to strip you of your Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms, now they want to take away your right to even talk about it.

In essence, that is the issue at the heart of a case involving an eighth-grade student from West Virginia who was suspended from school – then arrested – for refusing to take off a t-shirt supportive of the National Rifle Association.

“What they’re trying to do is take away my rights, my freedom of speech and my Second Amendment,” said 14-year-old Jared Marcum, when he was initially suspended from Logan Middle School in Logan, W. Va., in April.

‘This is about fundamental rights’

Following his suspension he was arrested for “obstruction and disturbing of education process,” whatever that means. Reports said officers even considered – now get this – charging him with making terrorist threats. Now young Marcum, who has no prior criminal record and is a model student, faces a year in jail and a $500 fine – just for wearing a pro-NRA tee-shirt that included a picture of a semi-automatic, military-style look-alike rifle.

The way the school handled it – from the demand young Marcum change his shirt to his suspension – was the epitome of cowardice. According to Breitbart News:

A New Amendment to the Farm Bill May Allow Industrial Hemp Research

The new Bipartisan Polis-Massie-Blumenauer Amendment would permit America’s colleges and universities to conduct important agricultural research in states that support industrial hemp farming

Many supporters of the medical marijuana and industrial hemp movements would agree that the antiquated and ineffective war on drugs is preventing us from growing a plant that aides in managing physical and mental health, through use of products such as hemp oil, and could also help stimulate the American farming industry. As people become more aware about the benefits of industrial hemp, lawmakers are starting to put forth effort into enabling farmers to grow this miraculous plant. Representative Jared Polis (D-OR), Representative Massie (R-KY), and Representative Blumenauer (D-OR), have introduced to the House a new bi-partisan amendment to the Farm Bill in support of industrial help. Vote Hemp’s press release about the amendment states:

The amendment would allow colleges and universities to grow and cultivate hemp for academic and agricultural research purposes. It would only apply to states where industrial hemp growth and cultivation is already legal. Read the rest of this entry

Are There Drugs in Our Water Supply?

Standard

Did you know that when you ingest or are injected with prescription drugs, your body doesn’t necessarily use everything? Excess drugs are excreted as waste material.

That’s good news for your body since pharmaceuticals can be very hard on your system, it’s not good news for the ecosystem since these drug residues work their way into our waterways and water processing plants.

Things you need to know about municipal water

Tap water has been unsafe for a very long time. Tap water may contain toxic chemicals, some known carcinogens, added to make it “safe” for drinking. Three of the poisons that can be found in faucet water are chlorinefluoride, and arsenic, a Category 1 carcinogen (cancer causing agent).

The newest acknowledgment of prescription drugs in waterways is one more toxin added to an already contaminated water supply and prescription medications are not easily filtered.

The drugs are not present in large quantities but they are a contaminant. This means you may be ingesting them continuously over a period of years and we don’t yet know what the long-term effects of such intake will be.

Studies are showing that the effects are already manifesting in fish (male fish producing female egg yolk proteins) and even earthworms and zooplankton. Antibiotics, for example, are less and less effective as treatments for ailments in humans, due to excessive prescribing practices. Bacteria have the ability to adapt to the antibiotics. Antibiotics in open water give bacteria more time to mutate. Read the rest of this entry

What Everyone Needs to Know About Monsanto Before It’s Too Late

Standard

Sometimes called Mon-satan, there is a reason that people are up in arms about Monsanto, more than any other Big Pharma company. Monsanto is to be dealt with swiftly – more than Dow Chemical, more than Syngenta, more than the hundreds of other companies that have been against GMO labeling.  The genetically modified seed that Monsanto is selling to farmers constitutes more than 90% of the total GMO food crops in the United States. This is called a monopoly. Just last year a report published by the International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-Biotech Applications (ISAAA) stated that 420 million acres of GMO had been planted, in 28 countries worldwide. Since 1996 GMO crops have been grown on over 3.7 billion acres. This is no accident. Monsanto has a plan.

It’s been a grand scheme for over 20 years. It’s about more than potatoes and corn, soy and sugar cane. Monsanto is trying to control the entire food supply chain. It’s better than nuclear warfare, more evil than the arm’s trade. If Monsanto controls the seed, every seed, from trees to oranges, to cauliflower and rice, okra, mustard, and so on, royalties will be collected on Mother Nature herself. What was once free to the world, heirloom seeds that grow into everything from bamboo trees to broccoli, becomes a commodity controlled by a corporation.

It all started with the ‘revolving door’ policies in the White House, which has been exerting control over law makers’ decisions, specifically through one Michael Taylor. Taylor once worked for Monsanto as an attorney and was also appointed the deputy commissioner for the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1991, only later to rejoin Monsanto as their Vice President for Public Policy. It is beyond a conflict of interest. Monsanto and the White House have been sleeping in the same bed for two decades.

CT Scans Cause Radiation-Induced Cancer

Standard

Radiation-induced cancers have tripled in the last two decades and diagnostic imaging has been already been admitted as a cause by the U.S. government. According to a study of seven U.S. healthcare systems, the use of computed tomography (CT) scans of the head, abdomen/pelvis, chest or spine, in children younger than age 14 more than doubled from 1996 to 2005, and this associated radiation is projected to potentially increase the risk of radiation-induced cancer in these children in the future, according to a study published Online First by JAMA Pediatrics.

The use of CT in pediatrics has increased over the last two decades. The ionizing radiation doses delivered by the tests are higher than convention radiography and are in ranges that have been linked to an increased risk of cancer. Children are more sensitive to radiation-induced carcinogenesis and have many years of life left for cancer to develop, the authors write in the study background.

“The increased use of CT in pediatrics, combined with the wide variability in radiation doses, has resulted in many children receiving a high-dose examination,” the study notes.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has warned radiologists in the past that the scan expose children to doses of radiation far greater than is safe for their age and weight — by some estimates, up to six times more than what is needed to produce clear images.

In a public health notification, FDA officials warned recently that, despite earlier efforts by the American College of Radiology to warn doctors to reduce radiation levels when imaging children, the problem still exists.

GMOs Quietly Pushed For Commercial Growing in The UK

Currently there is no commercial growing of Genetically Modified (GM) crops in the United Kingdom, only an experimental trial of GM Wheat which started in 2012, but now the Prime Minister’s personal scientific adviser; Sir Mark Walport and others are pushing an agenda to allow GM crops from Biotech firms such as Monsanto to be grown for commercial use.

Sir Mark said it was his ‘job to advise on the science and it is then the politician’s job to decide how to use that … The final decision is a political decision’.

His comments – in his first public speech in the job – are the latest indication that the GM lobby is rapidly gaining influence after years of public hostility. – Let farms grow GM food, says PM’s personal scientific adviser: Top adviser backs calls to relax rules on crops

“My job is to provide the best, most accurate scientific advice,” he said. “The job of the civil service is classically sometimes portrayed as telling truth to power, and there’s no doubt that is my job.” – Case for GM crops is becoming ‘stronger’, says chief scientist

Over the past 8 weeks 6 supermarkets; Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury’s, Morrison’s, Marks & Spencer and Co-operative ended bans on farm suppliers giving GM Soya and Maize to animals producing meat, milk and eggs, this includes free range animals.  Waitrose still requires non-GM feed for poultry, eggs and lamb. Infant Formula Manufacturers Refuse To Remove GMO And New Research Now Links Formula To Chronic Disease

Nestle and Mead Johnson Nutrition recently dismissed calls to remove genetically-modified organisms (GMO) from their infant formula products in the US and now evidence is coming forth on long-term risks related to infant formulations. Epidemiological research has indicated a relationship between infant formula feeding and increased risk of chronic diseases later in life including obesity, type-2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. Researchers stated that the comprehensive metabolic implications of formula vs breast-feeding play a role in long-term health risks.

Nestle and Mead Johnson Nutrition recently dismissed calls to remove genetically-modified organisms (GMO) from their infant formula products in the US — citing the approved use of GMOs by several national and global regulatory bodies.

According to anti-GMO campaign group, GMO Inside, these companies “likely” use GMO ingredients such as soy, corn and sugar in their popular infant formula products.

In the letter, the campaign group urged Nestle USA’s Paul Bulcke, Abbott Laboratories’ Miles White, and Mead Johnson Nutrition’s R Kasper Jakobsen to “take a proactive stand and announce a phase out of all GMOs in your infant formulas in 2013.”

“Similac, Enfamil, and Gerber Good Start — which combined account for more than 90% of all infant formula sales in the US — are exposing American and Canadian babies to potentially grave health risks by using genetically modified ingredients,” said a statement accompanying the letter. It’s on! Farmers begin suing Monsanto over genetic pollution of wheat crops

Standard

Monsanto(NaturalNews) The next wave of farmer backlash against Monsanto has just been unleashed by Ernest Barnes, a wheat farmer in Morton County, Kansas. He filed suit this week in the U.S. District Court in Wichita, Kansas, alleging that Monsanto’s genetic pollution has financially damaged himself and other farmers.

Barnes’ case appears to be well supported by the facts: Last week the USDA announced the shock discovery that genetically engineered wheat strains from Monsanto’s open-field experiments had escaped and spread into commercial wheat farms. Almost immediately, Japan and South Korea cancelled wheat purchase contracts from the United States, and more cancellations are expected to follow. The more countries reject U.S. wheat due to GMO contamination (genetic pollution), the lower wheat prices will plunge and the more economic damage will be felt by U.S. farmers.

Monsanto now a confirmed genetic polluter

GMO wheat (i.e. “GE wheat”) has never been commercially grown in the United States… at least not on purpose. Experimental fields were approved by the USDA and planted across 16 U.S. states. Until now, it was not known that these GE wheat experiments escaped their designated field plots and began to spread as a form of self-replicating genetic pollution.

For the record, Natural News openly warned about this possibility in a 2012 article called, “Stop Out-of-Control Science.” There, I wrote: Read the rest of this entry

Breaking: Connecticut Senate Passes GMO Labeling Bill

The Connecticut state Senate has amended and passed GMO labeling bill HB 6527 by an overwhelming vote of 134-3 after days of negotiation. A major step in the right direction, the bill signifies the growing opposition against Monsanto and GMOs at large within the United States that I have continued to support — but the bill does have a major flaw.

Coming right after the successful March Against Monsanto campaign, which was blacked out by the media despite an impressive turnout, the GMO labeling bill could not have picked a better time when it comes to support for the initiative. That said, the bill actually requires four other states enact mandatory labeling before the Connecticut law goes into operation. In other words, there was likely some cash thrown around between the politicians as we’ve seen in the past that led to a ‘compromise’ on the bill — one that effectively shuts it down.

We’ve seen similar things happen in the past, which is one of the reasons I published an extensive list of politicians paid off by Monsanto on NaturalSociety.
